When it comes to understanding and engaging people there's often a need to support individuals through their journey - usually in leadership or HR roles, but we've also helped people in other key roles such as Trade Union Representatives or employees identified to have leadership potential.

Clearly there is a difference between coaching and mentoring, and below we've given an overview of some of the differences, highlighting where we can help given our areas of expertise.

Coaching is normally a relatively short-term requirement. We focus on specific development needs which have usually been discussed with the individual's line manager as part of a development review or improvement plan. Effective coaching requires an expert on the subject that the individual is wanting to develop. Below are a few of the areas that we've successfully coached leaders and HR professionals:-

Line Managers - engaging with teams

Helping leaders of teams to manage people issues, to communicate well, build relationships and enhance credibility with their team.

Senior Executives - leading leaders

Helping senior leaders to engage well with their leadership teams and enabling accountability for people at the appropriate levels.

HR Professionals - working with Trade Unions

Whether Trade Unions or other employee representatives, we can help HR teams to engage, inform, consult and negotiate effectively.

Line Managers - performance management

One of the most common challenges leaders have is effectively managing performance (good and bad) to enhance results.

HR - supporting manufacturing

As HR professionals evolve towards more business partnering and being 'on the pitch' we can support them up the learning curve.

Mentoring is about relationships and providing individuals with a safe environment where they can confidentially share issues they are facing professionally and personally. The nature of the relationship goes beyond task management therefore subject matter expertise is not required. Conversations will explore wider development aspects such as personal influence and leadership style, often looking beyond the current role to future career development. For these reasons mentoring tends to be a longer-term requirement than coaching.

With our experience and independence from an organisation's management structure we are ideally placed to provide mentoring to leaders and HR professionals.
